Demand for framing of cultural policy

PATNA: The art and cultural cell of the BJP on Friday demanded framing of the state's cultural policy to give protection to the state's existing art and cultural traditions and to also promote art activities down to the district level with state patronage. The cell submitted a memorandum to arts, culture and sports minister Sukhda Pandey.

The demands include reconstitution of the various linguistic and cultural academies, creation of Kalyan Kosh (welfare fund) for artists and litterateurs, taking up of steps for the protection of the state's sub-regional languages (which include Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, Angika and Vajjika), construction of district-level Kala Bhawans provided with auditoria, galleries and training cells, listing of known and unknown artists operating at village level to provide them proper opportunities for the display of their talent, and holding of such programmes as 'Shukra Guljar' and 'Shani Bahar' at block levels. A seven-member delegation of the party's cultural cell led by its president, Anand Msihra, submitted the memorandum to the minister.

In a separate petition submitted to the minister, Parashar demanded official observation of Balidan Diwas to remember the sacrifice of Baikunth Shukla, who was the first freedom fighter of the state hanged in Gaya jail for killing police informant Phanindra Ghosh.
