Chaila Bihari performs at a kanwariya camp
Kalkatia Nawadehi (Deoghar), July 15: It was midnight but instead of stealing some sleep, the kanwariyas were seen swaying to Chaila Bihari’s songs at a kanwariya camp.
Bhojpuri and Angika folk singer Sunil Kumar, popularly known as Chaila Bihari, was performing live at the camp put up by Deoghar-based Indian Progressive Construction Company at Nawadehi, some 6km from Deoghar.
Vinita Kumari of Narpathganj, Bihar, was excited to see the singing sensation performing live there. “Look Chaila Bihari is singing that famous song,” said Vinita to her mother. She added: “We had earlier seen him on the screen or heard his songs on the music system but today he is in front of us.”
Several voluntary organisations have put up
makeshift camps at different points on the 110-km stretch of Sultanganj-Deoghar Kanwariya route for the pilgrims to take rest. And sometimes they invite folk artistes like Chaila Bihari, Ajit Anand, Manoj Tiwary and Sonu Mishra to entertain them also.
The performance was electric and mood upbeat though the pilgrims had a tiring day after walking miles. “These performances will provide relaxation as well as boost their morale,” said Jitesh Rajpal, an organiser of a camp.
Chaila Bihari said: “My life is dedicated to Lord Baidyanath. Every year, I perform here during Shravani Mela and I like entertaining the devotees of Lord Shiva. It makes me happy.”
He admitted that performing in front of such a large crowd increase his popularity and motivate people to purchase his musical albums.
