Guv to look into demand for Angika promotion

PATNA: Governor Devanand Konwar on Monday assured a three-member delegation of Anga Utthan Andolan Samiti (AUAS) to give a considered thought to its demand for government protection to Angika language. The delegation consisted of AUAS’ Bihar-Jharkhand chief Gautam Suman and its central general secretaries Jayant Jalad and Shyam Sundar Karna. They submitted a memorandum to the governor who, according to them, said that he would invite them for detailed talks on the matter after the visit of Vice-President Hamid Ansari on Tuesday. “The governor gave a patient hearing to our demands regarding the protection and promotion of Angika language. It is spoken in 15 districts across the Ganga river in Bihar and six districts of Santhal Pargana division in Jharkhand,” Jalad said. Suman had earlier sat on fast-unto-death for six days from July 5. Fast for recognition of Angika langauge

PATNA: The struggle for government recognition of Angika language spoken in eastern districts of Bihar and related demands has now taken a crucial turn, as its supporters have taken to ‘aamaran anshan (fast-unto-death)’ on Hardinge Road hear R-Block here to pursue their demands, and make themselves heard by the concerned in the Nitish Kumar government. Of the students sitting on fast, one Adarsh Suman (11) fell ill on Wednesday, and has been rushed to a doctor for treatment, said AUAS central general secretary Jayant Jalad. CM urged to take steps for protection of Angika

PATNA: Congress legislature party (CLP) leader in the state assembly and party’s former state chief Sadanand Singh on Friday urged CM Nitish Kumar to make his personal intervention and take requisite steps for the protection of Angika – the language of the people of ancient Anga Janapada and has evolved over the past several centuries. In this regard, he sent his emissaries to the official residence of the CM with a request letter. Singh’s letter pleaded, “It is my personal request that please consider the demands made for the protection of Angika language. It would help in strengthening the culture and tradition of the people of Anga Janapada. Kalkatia Nawadehi (Deoghar), July 15: It was midnight but instead of stealing some sleep, the kanwariyas were seen swaying to Chaila Bihari’s songs at a kanwariya camp. Bhojpuri and Angika folk singer Sunil Kumar, popularly known as Chaila Bihari, was performing live at the camp put up by Deoghar-based Indian Progressive Construction Company at Nawadehi, some 6km from Deoghar. Vinita Kumari of Narpathganj, Bihar, was excited to see the singing sensation performing live there. “Look Chaila Bihari is singing that famous song,” said Vinita to her mother. PATNA: The famous Manjusha art of Bhagalpur and its neighbouring ar-eas is on the verge of extinction due to lack of support from the Bihar government. Manjusha art is essentially local in its form and content mixed with a very popular folk tale of Bhagalpur namely `Bihula-Vishahari Gatha’. Now this art form is mainly confined to few museums and books. Two Bhagalpur scholars — professor, ancient Indian history and culture, TMBU University, Bhagalpur, Rajiva K Sinha and Bhagalpur Museum curator Om Prakash Pandey — have taken pain to document this dying art by pub-lishing a collection of its paintings, folklore and its origin. “This book would be useful for art lovers and future historians to un-derstand the rich heritage of the ancient Anga (modern Bhagalpur). Patna, Oct 8.Popular Bihar folk singer Sharda Sinha has been roped in by the Election Commission to spread awareness about the right to vote during the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Sharda Sinha has been appealing to voters on television in five different languages – Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithali and Angika – to exercise their voting rights in the elections. ‘Sharda Sinha’s 40-second to one-minute appeal to use the right to vote will be telecast on TV channels every day till the end of polls on Nov 20,’ an official told IANS Friday.
