Fast for recognition of Angika langauge

PATNA: The struggle for government recognition of Angika language spoken in eastern districts of Bihar and related demands has now taken a crucial turn, as its supporters have taken to ‘aamaran anshan (fast-unto-death)’ on Hardinge Road hear R-Block here to pursue their demands, and make themselves heard by the concerned in the Nitish Kumar government. Of the students sitting on fast, one Adarsh Suman (11) fell ill on Wednesday, and has been rushed to a doctor for treatment, said AUAS central general secretary Jayant Jalad. According to Gautam, as many as 65 people have arrived here from districts concerned to show their solidarity and be also a part of the struggle. CM urged to take steps for protection of Angika

PATNA: Congress legislature party (CLP) leader in the state assembly and party’s former state chief Sadanand Singh on Friday urged CM Nitish Kumar to make his personal intervention and take requisite steps for the protection of Angika – the language of the people of ancient Anga Janapada and has evolved over the past several centuries. In this regard, he sent his emissaries to the official residence of the CM with a request letter. Singh’s letter pleaded, “It is my personal request that please consider the demands made for the protection of Angika language. It would help in strengthening the culture and tradition of the people of Anga Janapada. Publisher of children’s magazine in 103 languages including Angika battles cancer

CUTTACK: Bijay Mohapatra, the publisher who achieved the rare distinction of publishing a children`s magazine called ” Suna Bhauni” in over a 100 languages, is now struggling for his life. The 42-year-old is suffering from renal cancer and undergoing treatment at the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre. The disease has spread to his abdomen and he is believed to be in a critical condition. Mohapatra struggled all his life to popularize Indian languages among children by publishing the magazine in 103 languages, including the lesser known Ho, Angika and Bajika, without any financial help from the government. His hard work paid off in the form of several awards and a mention in the Limca Book of Records. PATNA: The state human resources department (HRD) is all set to celebrate the National Education Day on November 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, an eminent educationist and Independent India’s first education minister. “As education minister, Azad oversaw the establishment of a national education system with free primary education and modern institutions of higher education. Bihar, in fact, became the first state in the country to initiate a move to celebrate Education Day in his memory in 2007. Later, in 2008, government of India also decided to observe November 11 as National Education Day,” said HRD principal secretary Anjani Kumar Singh. Though the beginning was modest, the HRD later organized the event in a big way in 2008. It will be likewise this year too. Jagatsinghpur: One poverty stricken literature and publisher has recorded his name Limca Book of Records’ by publishing a magazine in 60 language bringing inspiration and happy among local littérateurs, publishers for achieving this rare proud in this district. Fund crunch failed to prevent Bijaya Kuamr Mohapatra, 40 from fulfilling his long cherished dream of publishing a magazine in 64 languages and achieving record in Limca Book of Records. An attempt that started in 1990 with publication of ‘Suna Bhaunei’ in Oriya and subsequently the ‘Loving Sister’ in English in 1992 has now 60 versions in different languages. With financial assistance of Rs 5000 from his brother in law Mohapatra has published the first language. Folk singer to popularise right to vote in Bihar in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili and Angika languages

Patna, Oct 8.Popular Bihar folk singer Sharda Sinha has been roped in by the Election Commission to spread awareness about the right to vote during the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Sharda Sinha has been appealing to voters on television in five different languages – Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithali and Angika – to exercise their voting rights in the elections. ‘Sharda Sinha’s 40-second to one-minute appeal to use the right to vote will be telecast on TV channels every day till the end of polls on Nov 20,’ an official told IANS Friday. Sources in the State Election Commission said they hoped Sharda Sinha’s earthy voice would help increase the voter turnout.
